How Long Should You Sleep?

Find your optimum sleeping length

Common belief about sleep length is eight hours a night. But this may vary between people. Many people need more than 8 hours, and others need less.

You might need five hours a night. Or nine.

Jena Pitman-Leung suggests that we should figure out how much we really need. We can learn this on vacation and when we feel well slept. What we should do is, not to set alarm, and average the number of hours we sleep each night. And try for different numbers, like seven to eight and see how we feel.

This information gives some clues to us to find out our sleeping problems maybe.

Have a nice sleep!

How Does A Short Sleep At Work Affect Your Day?

Sleep At Work?

Some people care about their sleep schedule. It is something very important for them. Sleeping is so sensitive subject that it should be considered very carefully. During day at work, especially after 13:00 pm o’clock who doesn’t want to sleep?

If you’re on a normal, 9-to-5-ish schedule, your best bet for a quick snooze (if your job allows it) is between 1 and 3 p.m. Late enough that you’ll actually be plenty tired but early enough that it won’t interfere with your nighttime rest, says Jena Pitman-Leung, Ph.D., a sleep expert from shift-work consulting company Circadian in Stoneham, Massachusetts.

Next, length: Fifteen to 30 minutes is perfect. That’s enough to feel refreshed, not groggy. If you sleep longer, you’ll end up waking from deep sleep all fuzzy. But if you’re seriously tired and can afford to, it’s OK to sleep for 90 minutes, the ideal amount of time to complete all the phases of the sleep cycle, Pitman-Leung says. Assuming you take 10 minutes to nod off, set your alarm for about 30 minutes or 100 minutes and you’ll get your full share of nappy goodness.

Awesome!

How To Find Your Soul Mate Using Math

Looking For Your Soul Mate?

I was surfing Internet and I found a very interesting way to find soulmate!

As far as I know, there is no theoritical neither practical way to find soul mate. But a maths professor called Steven Strogatz found a way! Interesting! Let’s see how it goes.

His theory is based on a math theory called optimal stopping theory. Yet another maths theory but this one looks like useful.

He claims that we can find our soul mate by using e.

You can figure out when you’ll meet Mrs. Right by using e (2.71828), an advanced calculus integral that allows you to solve problems involving a lot of randomness and choices. This requires a little guess work, but, hey, nothing’s perfect. Math can’t solve all of your problems, after all.

Says Strogatz. And he suggests us to divide this process into steps.

Step 1. Find Out Prime Years

Assume that women you date, might accept your proposal if you asked, and there are no second chances. So, what we should do? We should figure out our “prime” dating years between ages 20 and 35.

Step 2. Go Further

Divide your prime dating years into two sections. Spend the first 7.5 years dating around, establishing what you like and don’t like in potential partners. When you hit 7.5 years, assess the women you’ve dated so far and establish who you felt was the closest to being “the one.” She, for lack of a better term, is your #2 dream girl.

Step 3. Decision!

As a next step, start to date in a more serious manner. As soon as you find someone who you like more than #2 dream girl, congrats, you’ve found your soul mate!

The logic is that since you’ve already met your #2 girl, anyone better must be #1–and no one is better than #1. Just hope she isn’t also using this logic if you meet her in the first half.

That’s it!

Comments are welcome.

Good luck!

5 Ways To Help Your Life Using Math

“Calculus”

When we hear this word, if you feel horrified, it may mean that you only think confusing symbols, abstract concepts, and a 9-pound textbook! But at this post you will see that calculus may actually help you.

1. Run a Faster 5K

Problem: You can’t seem to shave any time off your shorter runs

Math theory: Calculus of variations, Newton’s second law

Solution: Conventional wisdom says to save a little energy for a burst of speed at the end of the race, says Strogatz. But mathematicians contend if you have enough energy left for a final spurt of speed, you’ve failed to reach your optimal velocity–and you’re flat-out doing it wrong. The most efficient way to run a race is to think of the race in three parts, according to a study by famous mathematician Joseph B. Keller, Ph.D. During the first few seconds, you should run as fast as possible before leveling off for the second phase. The last few seconds of the race, you should be dragging your butt across the finish line. Basically, if you still have energy left for a final burst of speed, that energy would have been more efficiently used by spreading it out over the duration of the course. (If you’re a new runner, read The Weekend Warrior’s 5K Plan to cross the finish line strong in just 6 weeks.)

2. Apply Discounts at the Cash Register

Problem: You can’t figure out if your should apply the discount before or after tax

Math theory: Commutative law

Solution: It actually doesn’t matter, Strogatz says. While you’re wracking your brain about the 20-percent-off coupon, you could be high-tailing it out of the store if you’d been paying attention back in the ninth grade. Say the pants you’re looking at are $50 with an 8 percent sales tax. The clerk says she’ll take 20 percent off after tax, so you get more money back. You counter, asking to take the 20 percent off before, so you pay less in sales tax. So who’s wrong? No one. Your way: $50 minus 20 percent reduces the price to $40, multiplied by 8-percent tax for a final price of $43.20. Her way: $50 plus 8-percent tax is $54 minus the 20 percent. That final price? $43.20. In both situations, you’re simply switching the order of multiplication, not the numbers themselves. Because of commutative law, it works out the same.

3. Get More Cream Cheese on Your Bagel (Seriously)

Problem: You can’t spread enough stuff on your breakfast bagel

Math theory: Möbius strip

Solution: Turns out, you’ve been putting cream cheese on your bagel the wrong way all along. Think of a Mobias strip as a buckled belt with a single half-twist in it, Strogatz says. It’s unique because it’s a shape with one continuous surface–essentially the inside is connected to the outside, and vice-versa. George Hart, Ph.D, geometric sculptor and bagel math extraordinaire, found by cutting the bagel into a variation on a Mobias strip–essentially creating two interlocking links–you create more surface area, and thus more room for a delicious spread.

4. Keep a Tennis Ball in Bounds

Problem: You keep hitting tennis balls out of bounds

Math theory: Vector calculus

Solution: Factor in the vectors. Say you’re playing tennis with the boss and the ball is hurtling toward the boundary line, so you take one desperate whack in an attempt to impress the big guy with a running forehand down the inside of the line. But despite your solid hit, the ball bounces out of bounds. That’s because you failed to think about the vectors. When you hit the ball, you didn’t factor the force your body’s velocity would impart on the ball–in addition to the force of the racket. Your new move: Aim the ball across the court in order to compensate. (Want more tips for being the next Roger Federer? Learn 7 Fixes to Help You Play Tennis Like a Pro.)

5. Meet Your Other Half

Problem: You don’t know when to settle down with the right girl

Math Theory: e, optimal stopping theory

Solution: You can figure out when you’ll meet Mrs. Right by using e (2.71828), an advanced calculus integral that allows you to solve problems involving a lot of randomness and choices, Strogatz says. This requires a little guess work, but, hey, nothing’s perfect. Math can’t solve all of your problems, after all.
It goes like this: Assume all the women you date would marry you if you asked, and there are no second chances. First, figure out what you consider your “prime” dating years–between ages 20 and 35. Step one: Divide your prime dating years into two sections. Spend the first 7.5 years dating around, establishing what you like and don’t like in potential partners. When you hit 7.5 years, assess the women you’ve dated so far and establish who you felt was the closest to being “the one.” She–for lack of a better term–is your #2 dream girl. Then, start to date in a more serious manner. As soon as you find someone who you like more than #2 dream girl, congrats–you’ve found your soul mate! The logic is that since you’ve already met your #2 girl, anyone better must be #1–and no one is better than #1. Just hope she isn’t also using this logic if you meet her in the first half.

How To Create Wireless Ad Hoc Internet Connection In Windows 8

How to turn your laptop into a wi-fi router in Windows 8?

In Windows 7 there is a feature to use our laptops as a wi-fi hot spot. This is called “Ad Hoc Internet Connection”. Using this feature, we can share our internet connection with other computers/devices around us. This is a spesific case which will not be used all the time. That is why it is called ad hoc.

In Windows 8 this feature is hidden or lets say buried! To use this feature we need to use commandline which is like this:

netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=<network name> key=<passkey>
netsh wlan start hostednetwork

Well, this works fine. But if you are not an experienced user neither a tech person, I will recommend you a tool which will help you to get rid of such commandline mess.

If you are a person who share your network at home or office, and if you don’t want to buy a wi-fi router, you can use VirtualRouterPlus. This tool very easy to use and open source. Which means that, it is virus/trojan free.

Virtual Router Plus

All you have to do is, these steps:

  • Download tool.
  • Unzip archive anywhere you want. I suggest “C:\Program Files\VirtualRouterPlus”
  • Make a short-cut at desktop for VirtualRouterPlus.exe file.

That’s it! Happy end!

iPhone 5S Cooming Soon!

iPhone 5S

It has been confirmed that September 10 will be the release date of the new iPhone. This is indeed good news for iPhone fans or people who wants to buy a new phone soon.

iphone 5S iPhone 5S Cooming Soon!

iphone-5S

Last year Apple lost market against Samsung Galaxy series. If we compare iPhone to Samsung Galaxy, opinions may differ and comparison, in my opinion, is useless. They are both different devices and for different tastes.

Let’s take a look at new iPhone 5s!

There will be a gold version along with white and black cases. At some countries there are a lot of variations of cases. So it looks like Apple decided to listen customers and release different color options. I hope company will continue listening their customers and release more customisable products.

New iPhone, will have a same CPU but with better performance. Technically explained as it will be a clocked version of the CPU used at iPhone 5. So at this subject we dont get something very impressing. But better performance is always accepted!

Screen quality will not increase but Apple is planing to increase screen brightness while decreasing its energy consumption. This will be a great upgrade in my opinion. More battery life is something everyone will appriciate.

iPhone 5s will come with a better camera. Front camera will not change but behind camera will be 12-megapixels. And also with a dual-LED flash. Which looks like a good feature. But personally, I don’t support the idea that such devices should have a camera like this. We use these devices for talking and surfing over the web. If we want to take pictures, we should buy something specific for this purpose. Dual flash and increase on megapixel will reduce battery life. But still this is a progress.

Fingerprint reader! At iPhone 5s Apple decided to add a finger print reader underneath the Home button. So what is the catch? Probably we will not need a password lock. And also logins to web pages and applications can also be done via fingerprint reader. This is something worth of it.

Summary

Apple looks like starting to fail on creating new ideas. iPhone indeed, created a new era on mobile devices. We all should accept and apriciate this. But Apple is now loosing its popularity because of lacking new features. If you are already an iPhone 5 or 4/4s user, you should keep it. New iPhone will not give you something completely new. But if you are planing to buy a new phone, iPhone 5s might be you best choice.

My project is about using banana peels in the production of bio-plastic as a replacement of the traditional petroleum based plastic. In this project, I developed a method for making plastic by using banana peels and found new areas for the use of the plastic that I manufactured: using the bio-plastic in the making of cosmetic prosthesis and in the insulation of cables.

This project was done over a time period of 2 years. During this time period, I was able to succeed in my endeavor to manufacture plastic that can actually be used in daily life.

Suri Effect

Suri Cruise effect leads parents to spend hundreds on kid’s clothes

suri cruise Suri EffectLittle Suri Cruise has always been a trendsetter, but now her fashion choices mean serious money! According to the market research company NPD group, the sales of fashion footwear for girls grew 9% in the last year, after a 5% growth the previous year. Now, high heel shoes for young girls is a $4 billion industry, which sees young daughters eager to emulate the style of their mothers. While we can’t say for certain Suri is the reason for this spike, she has been seen countless times wearing those pint-size heels.

says www.stylelist.com. According to  www.thedailybeast.com

Call it the “Mini-Me Craze.”

suri cruise with mam Suri EffectIn an attempt to emulate their idols—be it their mothers, celebrity role models like Selena Gomez, or even Suri Cruise—young girls are apparently starting to wear high heels.

On Wednesday, The New York Times reported that high heels are no longer just something you see on celebrity kids. They’re shockingly becoming more common in elementary schools and playgrounds.

Some designers have shown increasing interest in the younger set, with brands like Burberry featuring Romeo Beckham as the face of its spring campaign, and making versions of runway clothes in children’s sizes. Michael by Michael Kors and Steve Madden have also made the jump into literally “down-sizing” adult fashion to a miniature level. The Times’s Tatiana Boncompagni writes that “roughly half of Steve Madden Kids Spring/Summer collection (six sneaker styles and a dozen other wedges and heels) has an elevated sole,” and that “the company made pink, fringed wedge boots in toddler sizes last fall.”

They say high heels are not healthy for children but who cares! Lets call it the mini me craze!

Have a nice day!
